Policy Paper: Developing an Advanced Biofuels Industry: State Policy Options for Lean and Uncertain Times
The purpose of this project was to determine what incentives best support the commercialization of environmentally sustainable, low carbon, renewable biofuel technologies, to identify ways federal and state incentives can work together, and to determine how states can position themselves to help meet federal biofuels mandates. “Gevo Produces Isobutanol, Hydrocarbons and Renewable Jet Fuel from Cellulosic Biomass
Gevo, a privately held renewable chemicals and advanced biofuels company, has successfully produced isobutanol from fermentable sugars derived from cellulosic biomass. The company also successfully converted the cellulosic isobutanol into isobutylene and paraffinic kerosene (jet fuel). Second-Generation Biofuel: Isobutanol Producing Biocatalyst
With support from EPA’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program, Gevo launched a project to identify rate-limiting steps in the isobutanol pathway in yeast. This effort resulted in the development of genetic and biochemical assays to characterize each of the enzymes involved in the production of isobutanol in yeast.
